Joan Almon is the founder of the Alliance for Childhood and author of numerous publications on the need for reform in our approach to education and childhood in general. Among her publications are a book called Adventure: The Value of Risk in Children’s Play. If you are interested in the topic of play generally and adventurous play in particular, including the developmental importance of children’s exposure to risk-taking in play, take some time to watch this talk at Wellesley College by Ms. Almon. It’s full of common sense, compelling arguments and respect for the needs of all children.
